FAQs

  • where should I park when Touring The Blue Ridge Parkway?

Parking is allowed on roadside shoulders, designated parking areas, visitor centers and parks. You don’t have to be at an overlook to stop and enjoy the scenery, unless otherwise posted, and choose a place where you can pull your car safely off the road so as not to endanger yourself, other drivers, or wildlife. Avoid wet areas and make sure all four wheels are off the pavement. And remember the speed limit is generally 45 MPH.
  • can you fish Along the Blue Ridge Parkway?

The Blue Ridge Parkway features numerous lakes, rivers, streams and ponds along the scenic byway. Many of these waterways are designated for fishing with a license and in season, including Basin Creek, Doughton Park, Boone Fork, Cold Prong Branch, Laurel Creek, Sims Creek, and Camp Creek. These are great places to catch trout, bass and panfish.
